Program Description
Project ABLE (Academic, Behavior, Learning, Excellence) Classrooms provide a highly structured, small group instructional environment for students. Classrooms provide small group and individualized instruction utilizing the principles of scientific teaching. Curricular materials are aligned to grade appropriate learning standards. Teachers adapt to the unique learning styles of each individual student utilizing a variety of instructional strategies. Project ABLE provides an emotionally supportive environment within the context of high behavioral expectations with the goal of facilitating a student’s ability to successfully function within the school environment. Students are progress monitored on a regular basis and utilize a data-based decision-making approach to guide instruction and IEP development. Each student has an individualized behavior intervention plan (BIP) that is monitored throughout the school day. A comprehensive and individualized reinforcement system is used to monitor the students' behavioral progress. Social skills instruction is provided throughout the day through counseling and instruction.
Project ABLE services students' between kindergarten and 8th grade and is located within the Molloy Education Center. The goal of Project ABLE is to facilitate the student’s participation in the general education setting. Project ABLE and the home school staff begin to develop plans to transition a student to the home school when appropriate. Integration is done in small, incremental steps in order to allow the student to receive maximum support as s/he begins to participate in the home school environment. Regular communication occurs between family and staff to ensure that the student has a successful integration process.
Transition Planning
NTDSE provides a variety of professional development to help families begin to plan for post-secondary life. Individualized transition planning begins at the IEP when a child is 14.
