Program Description

The NTDSE Satellite Programs are committed to providing students with a quality educational program that fosters academic growth, developing relationships, supporting communication, and building independence to enhance a student's participation in the general education population.

The highly structured programs are for students pre-K through eighth grade and are located within member district elementary and middle schools. Classrooms provide small group instruction with a highly individualized researched based curriculum. This curriculum is aligned with the curricula of member districts as well as the Illinois Learning Standards. Both academic and functional skills are addressed through the use of technology and intensive reading and math programs. Teachers adapt to the unique learning styles of each individual student utilizing a variety of instructional strategies. Students are progress monitored on a regular basis and utilize a data-based decision-making approach to guide instruction and IEP development.

Team Approach

All IEP goals are worked on in a collaborative model. A multidisciplinary team develops goals, instructional strategies, and accommodations that can be utilized across settings with special education classroom staff, general education staff, and parents.

Technology

NTDSE embraces the use of technology on a daily basis to enhance the curriculum and IEP goal instruction.

General Education Integration

NTDSE Satellite programs are located within member district schools to enable students to participate in the general education community to the fullest extent possible as determined by their IEP. Teachers consult with general education staff on a regular basis, and supports are provided based on students needs specified in their IEP.

Transition Planning

NTDSE provides a variety of professional development to help families begin to plan for post-secondary life. Individualized transition planning begins at the IEP when a child is 14.
